HULK HOGAN: THE IMMORTAL ICON WHO SLAMMED HIS WAY INTO HISTORY AND THE HEARTS OF MILLIONS

“Whatcha gonna do, brother, when the legacy of Hulk Hogan runs wild on you?”

These words weren’t just catchphrases shouted into microphones. They were the battle cry of a generation. For millions of wrestling fans around the globe, Hulk Hogan was more than just a wrestler—he was a symbol. A titan in red and yellow. A mustachioed mountain that oozed charisma. A real-life superhero in a world desperately needing one.

It's now been about 3 days since I started to write this. When my wife first broke the news, we were on family vacation in Florida. For one of the few times in my life, I was unattached from my phone. For one of the first times of my life, I was speechless. There was no way this was real!?!? My childhood hero. The role model of my entire adolescence. The man who even inspired my color scheme (and to an extent some mottos) to my current profession. I knew that I needed to get this tribute out to my GOAT, but the words just didn't seem to come out as easily as they normally do.

In a world of professional wrestling that thrives on larger-than-life personalities, NONE stood larger than Terry Bollea aka Hulk Hogan. And while this post may read like a eulogy, let’s be clear: Hulk Hogan is immortal. You don’t just “remember” Hulk Hogan—you live his legacy every time you hear entrance music blare through an arena, every time a little kid flexes their muscles or holds up a sign dreaming of glory, and every time a body is slammed into the mat in a sold-out stadium.

The Birth of Hulkamania

In the early 1980s, professional wrestling was still a regional spectacle—a weird, smoky mix of athleticism and carnival showmanship. Enter Hulk Hogan. He didn't just change the game—he body slammed it into the mainstream through a table and made it must see television no matter who you were.

With his signature red-and-yellow gear, bandana, handlebar mustache, and those 24-inch pythons, Hogan wasn’t just wrestling opponents—he was actually wrestling doubt, mediocrity, and irrelevance. He became the face of Vince McMahon's ambitious national expansion of the World Wrestling Federation (WWF). And in 1984, when Hogan defeated The Iron Sheik to win his first WWF Championship; Hulkamania was born.

This wasn’t just a normal title win. It was a major cultural shift. Hogan brought professional wrassling to MTV, to Saturday morning cartoons, to lunchboxes, to cereal boxes—he made wrestling cool. He made it everything it is today.

A Hero for the People

Let’s talk about the man behind the big boot. Hogan wasn’t just a character—he was a modern-day folk hero. He told kids to say their prayers, eat their vitamins, and believe in themselves. He stood for all that was good in a business that often danced in the gray. When the odds were stacked, when the villain was sneering, and when hope was all but lost, the arena would erupt into chants of “Hogan! Hogan!”—and you knew the tide was about to turn. Hogan would "Hulk Up" and maniacally shake his head, pump his fists, and feed off the roar of the crowd.

I remember being a 4 year old boy, staying up late with my Aunt Alice watching him in my Grom and Pappy's living room. Once this bronzed God-like figure emerged from behind a dark curtain, it just consumed me. I began running around all over the place, recklessly jumping from sofa to sofa and cheering as loud as I could for my favorite wrestler to save the day. And almost every single time, he would do just that. Fight for the right of every man, fight for what's right; fight for his life.

To a generation of fans like myself, Hulk Hogan was Superman with a tan, weightlifting belt, and a bandana. He fought Andre the Giant in front of 93,000 fans at WrestleMania III and body slammed him—an act that transcended sports entertainment and became an iconic moment in American pop culture still to this day.

The Evolution of an Icon

While many heroes fade, Hogan actually evolved. In 1996, he shocked the world by turning heel and forming the nWo, changing the wrestling landscape again. He proved he wasn’t just a nostalgia act—he was the business. And he brought millions more into the fold during the famed Monday Night Wars, elevating pro wrestling to never-before-seen levels of mainstream success while in WCW.

Wrestlers today owe more than just a debt of gratitude to Hogan—they owe their livelihoods. The global juggernaut that is modern pro wrestling—the WrestleManias in stadiums, the billion-dollar TV deals, the action figures and reality shows—all of it stands on the back of one man: the man in the red and yellow.

Legacy Beyond the Ring

Even when the boots were hung up and the ring lights faded, Hogan’s influence never wavered. He became a household name outside the squared circle—movies, TV shows, endorsements, and countless cameos. Hulk Hogan wasn't just a wrestler. He was a brand. A force of pop culture. A walking embodiment of '80s energy, '90s swagger, and timeless charisma. Red and yellow? Black and white? Red and black? It didn't matter. Hogan was always relevant until the end

Yes, there were controversies. Yes, there were missteps. But true greatness isn’t the absence of failure—it’s the ability to rise above it. To endure. To remain.

And Hulk Hogan has always remained.

From the Birth of Hulkamania In 1984, Hogan was never out of the spotlight and still drew huge crowds four decades later. From his numerous stores and restaurants, and now to his own beer, the name Hulk Hogan was synonymous with America and he will always be THE Real American. Nothing encapsulates this better than my 7 year old son running around our house belting out Hulk's entrance theme 40 years later.

Final Thoughts: The Immortal Still Runs Wild

If wrestling had a Mount Rushmore, Hogan’s head would be front and center—ripping a shirt in half, cupping his ear to the crowd, and preparing to drop the leg one last time. He was wrestling’s first real superhero. Its first megastar. Its first global ambassador.

Hogan once said, “To all my little Hulkamaniacs, say your prayers, eat your vitamins and you will never go wrong.” That message resonated far beyond the ring. It was a mantra of hope, power, and belief in one’s self.

So here’s to the Immortal. The Legend. The Icon.

Thank you, Hulk Hogan, for making wrestling what it is.

Thank you for the memories, the moments, the madness.

Thank you for the slam heard ‘round the world and all of the history that followed.

The ring may be empty. The lights may dim. But Hulkamania? That runs wild forever.

Whatcha gonna do… when the legacy of Hulk Hogan lives on in every ring, in every fan, and in every dream for the rest of time? BROTHER!

Rest easy, champ. You already made it eternal.
