Senior Boxers and Bad Records

What in the world is going on with professional boxing? 🥊 

In what continues to be an awful trend in the sport of boxing, 60-year-old Oliver “The Atomic Bull” McCall (61-14) will again return to the ring tonight. This will be McCall’s 3rd fight on his senior retirement tour, he is 2-0 so far.

Tonight, he will face Carlos Reyes who is 48 years old and sports an impressive record if 7-17-2. Reyes has been winless in his last 13 bouts including being TKO’d in his last 5 fights dating back to 2021.

McCall won the WBC heavyweight championship back in 1994  with a win over Lennox Lewis but what he is best known for is having an in-ring breakdown in the 1997 rematch with Lewis.

The fight card being promoted by Jimmy Adams in Tennessee also includes Marco Lara who is 0-11 and has been knocked out in 10 of those bouts as well as George Sheppard who is 1-20-1 but he has only been knocked out in 15 of those 20 loses. Sheppard has also not won a fight since 2017.

The same promoter at the same venue will host the return of 53 year old former heavyweight champion Shannon "The Cannon" Briggs (60-6-1) who last fought nearly a decade ago.
