Undefeated junior featherweight prospect Vik “Da Jalapeño” Hernandez (14-0, 11 KOs) will make a return to the ring on August 2, headlining a Christy Martin Promotions card at the Fairground Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. Hernandez is set to meet Cincinnati’s Javon “El Elegido” Garnett (10-2, 5 KOs) in a 10-round bout for both the NABF and NABA Junior Featherweight titles at stake.
The 31 year old Hernandez has his sights set on a getting world title shot in the near future. The DTB superstar is coming off of 4 straight knockout victories including some that are on the national boxing scene highlight reels.
Garnett, 27, enters the contest looking to rebound from back-to-back 10 round decision losses to high level opposition. Before that stretch, the Ohio fighter opened his career with ten consecutive victories and claimed the IBO Americas featherweight title by defeating then 8-1 Jose Argel.
Both belts up for grabs in Nashville carry significance within the division. Historically, NABF titleholders have often been rewarded with top-20 WBC rankings, potentially positioning the winner for bigger opportunities in the featherweight landscape.
The Group Chat Podcast will have Vik on at some point prior to this fight to get his thoughts on this fight and what the future may look like for Da Jalapeno.
